Durham Planning Commission rejected this proposal 8-2. In their own words:

"We only need to look at the recent, catastrophic flooding in Swannanoa, Black Mountain, and Asheville this past September to understand the severe risks posed by development in flood-prone zones such as this." - Gregory, voted "No"

Save Sandy Creek is a project dedicated to voicing serious concerns about the Pickett Rd "Pickett Apartments" proposed development as well as provide solutions to ensure:

1) access to affordable and accessible housing

2) the protection of wildlife from development impacts

3) the safeguarding of the integrity of the Haw River watershed.

 

Our mission is to demonstrate that Durham can develop while prioritizing both environmental conservation and accessible & affordable housing. We aim to set a new standard for development that respects nature and promotes equitable living.
